The US and UK are both expanding their national ID systems to allow more organizations to tap into them and to use them as a point of single sign-on. In other words, you want to login to your bank, you verify through your national ID; want to login to email, verify through your national ID; want to buy plane tickets, verify through your national ID.
Revelation 13:16-17 states:
